Ice Girl is getting ready for the big Nashville competition next weekend. She is skating at Basic 4 again this weekend.
This Thursday will be a big day in her training. If she can nail her forward crossovers, forward Mohawk, cross behind, step, backward crossover into forward edge, she will pass her Basic Skills. Passing Basic Skills and moving into Freeskate means that she has participate in the Grassroots to Champions clinic in June (provided that she can nail her toe loop and salchow). This would be a fabulous opportunity for Ice Girl and she's really excited about it. G2C is all about raising the technical bar for skaters in the next 4 years and since Ice Girl wants to be in the 2021 Olympics, this will be a must for her summer plans!
Anyhow, if you are an Ice Parent close to Evansville, let me know if your Ice Kid would like to participate in Grassroots to Champions.

New bling for Nashville
Ice Girl's new skate dress arrived today! We had Tina Skating make this semi-custom dress. It is very cute and fits her well.
Part of the allure of a skating dress is the ability to bling it out to your heart's content. Luckily for us, this dress is blinged out and there is very little we have to do to it. It is covered in 3D flowers, pearls, rhinestones, sequins and beads. I could go ahead and bling out the skirt, but we don't want to go completely overboard.
Another issue to deal with is what to do with hair. Ice Girl has baby fine, stick straight hair. We have found that if we put her hair in a bun and then add fake hair, it gives her the appearance of volume and takes about 10 minutes to do. We dressed her hair up with braids in her bangs and sides and a large black bow for Louisville.
We also have to contend with make up. Ice Girl is extremely fair complected (now....wait until she has a few days outside in the sun.....with sunscreen.....she will be dark) so I brush on a bronzer to give her a glow. I also have to cake the eye makeup on, bright lips and blushed cheeks.
As soon as Ice Girl will let me put her back in the new dress, I will be sure to get a picture up of her!

LSA Spring Invitational
Wow! What a first competition!
Ice Girl took 3rd in the Basic Skills 4 Program group! It was awesome!
We arrived at Iceland and and watched a couple of the girls from GEFSC in pre-prelim A. Ice Girl and I then spent quality time in the locker room getting ready. She then took to the practice ice and did a 25 minute warm up.
She was the first in her group to perform and I think she did a great job! She was so confident and poised and you wouldn't think this was her very first competition.
Add to that, she skated on a pretty serious hip injury from the previous day.
Looking forward to hitting the road again in a few weeks for Skate Nashville!
After competition, we hit up our favorite BBQ place in Louisville, Mark's Feed Store. Our server was so impressed with her medal, he gave Ice Girl a free hot fudge sundae.
Medal and hot fudge sundae? Yes, please!

Do you Zuca?
Ice Girl has been wanting a Zuca bag for quite a while. However, tonight I was at Michaels and found the most adorable hot pink quilted rolling scrapbook tote that I thought would be perfect for a skate bag. Instead of the hefty $150 price tag for a Zuca bag, I spent $20 for a rolling tote that does everything a Zuca does, except turn into a seat. Overall, I think we will be fairly happy with out cheap skate bag until Ice Girl gets a little more advanced.....perhaps a reward when she passes her Freeskate series.
